Claude Code (currently in research preview) operates as a high-agency CLI tool for developers. It handles the heavy lifting of software maintenance: refactoring legacy modules, fixing deep-seated bugs across multiple files, and automating git workflows. By integrating directly with your terminal, it reads local files, runs test suites to verify its own code, and executes shell commands to resolve build errors. It is built on the Claude 3.5 Sonnet model to ensure high-reasoning output while maintaining the speed required for real-time terminal interaction.
