Cognitive architecture

Cognitive architecture is the computational blueprint for general intelligence: a fixed, integrated structure modeling human-like functions (memory, perception, reasoning) to create adaptive AI agents.

This technology is a formalized hypothesis about the mind’s fixed structure, serving as a computational framework for both human cognition modeling and Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). It unifies diverse functions—perception, learning, decision-making—through interconnected modules. Major, long-standing models like ACT-R (Adaptive Control of Thought–Rational) and SOAR (State, Operator, and Result) exemplify this approach, defining the core mechanisms (e.g., procedural memory, working memory) that encode and apply knowledge. The goal is a unified theory of intelligence, enabling AI systems to operate across a full range of complex, open-ended tasks, moving beyond narrow, single-function algorithms.
