Instantly launch applications, search files, and execute system commands via a quick, keyboard-driven search interface.

Desktop launchers are productivity tools engineered to eliminate menu navigation and accelerate workflow. They utilize a simple, keyboard-triggered search bar—often activated by a hotkey like Alt+Space—to provide instantaneous access to resources. Users can quickly launch applications, search local files, execute system commands (e.g., shutdown, restart), or perform direct web queries. Modern examples, such as Flow Launcher and Microsoft PowerToys Run, leverage a robust plugin architecture, enabling extended functionality like in-app calculations, Spotify control, or Steam game library searches. This technology centralizes and streamlines desktop interaction, drastically reducing the time spent locating resources.
