Face Detection
Face Detection is a computer vision technology that uses AI and machine learning (ML) algorithms to locate and isolate human faces within digital images or video streams.
This core computer vision process identifies the presence and precise location of a human face, distinguishing it from all other objects in the frame. Algorithms, historically like Viola-Jones and now predominantly deep learning models (e.g., MTCNN, YOLO), scan for key features: eyes, nose, and mouth contours. The output is a bounding box coordinate (x, y, width, height) for each detected face. This is the critical first step for downstream applications: it enables facial recognition for secure access control, powers real-time surveillance systems, and facilitates features like auto-focus and photo-tagging in consumer electronics.
