GitHub Apps
GitHub Apps extend GitHub's functionality, automating workflows and integrating external tools directly into repositories and organizations.
GitHub Apps are a secure and efficient way to automate tasks and integrate third-party services with GitHub. Unlike OAuth Apps, GitHub Apps are first-class actors: they have their own identities, permissions, and webhooks, allowing for granular control over access to an organization's or user's data. This design enhances security and stability, making them ideal for continuous integration (CI) pipelines, automated code reviews, and custom deployment workflows. For instance, a GitHub App can automatically label pull requests, enforce branch protection rules, or synchronize issues with project management tools like Jira, all without requiring a user to grant broad permissions to their personal account.
