Modal Labs solves the infrastructure headache for AI developers by eliminating the need for Kubernetes, Docker, or complex cloud setup. Founded by Erik Bernhardsson and Akshat Bubna, the platform lets engineers run generative AI inference, large-scale batch jobs, and model fine-tuning using a simple Python API. By building its own custom file system, container runtime, and scheduler, Modal achieves sub-second container start times and provides instant, pay-as-you-go access to powerful GPUs (including NVIDIA H100s and B200s).
