RAM (Random-Access Memory) is the volatile, high-speed workspace for the CPU, enabling rapid data access in nanoseconds for immediate task execution and seamless multitasking.

RAM (Random-Access Memory) is the volatile, high-speed workspace for your system's CPU. It is primary memory, not long-term storage, designed for lightning-fast data retrieval: often 20x to 100x faster than an SSD. The two main types are Dynamic RAM (DRAM), used for main system memory (e.g., a 32GB DDR5 module), and Static RAM (SRAM), typically used for smaller, faster CPU cache. When you launch an application, its core files load from the SSD into RAM, allowing the processor to access them directly via random addressing. This direct, non-sequential access is key to fluid performance and quick task switching. Power off the machine, and the data is gone; that is the core of the volatile principle.
