Why This API Exists

We built the AI Tinkerers API to make the community better for its members.

That starts with the people who do the most for it: organizers automating follow-ups, managing sponsor outreach, and running chapter operations without drowning in admin. It extends to every member who wants their agent to find events, handle RSVPs, and stay connected to what’s happening. And because this is a community of AI builders, we’d honestly be a little disappointed if you didn’t experiment. We have an API. See what you can do with it.

A stronger network makes all of this better, so there are some ground rules to protect members, organizers, sponsors, and chapters. That’s what the rest of this document covers.

The Rules, Plain English

The short version. The sections below make these binding and add detail, and this summary does not replace them.

Your key is you. It inherits your website permissions and never unlocks anything the site would not show you. Trying to get around that is a violation, not a bug find.
Beta scope is personal productivity and approved chapter operations. Public launches, multi-chapter tools, commercial products, and tools that sponsors themselves use need a conversation first. See Bigger Ideas.
Hard no’s: spam, scraping or bulk export, reselling access, surveillance of members, impersonating AI Tinkerers, availability or performance benchmarking, and presenting an unofficial tool as official.
Member data stays in the community. No external data stores beyond what your tool immediately needs, no enrichment, no advertising, no using community data to benefit an unrelated party.
No training generalized AI models on API data. Personalized memory for your own agent is explicitly fine. The ban covers derived, aggregated, and anonymized forms too.
Never ask another member for their key, and never accept one. Every agent runs on its own human’s key.
Treat your key like a password. If a key or data is exposed, email [email protected] within 24 hours.
When access ends, clean up. Delete member data you are holding within 14 days of a key being revoked or your access ending.
The API is in beta. Endpoints, scopes, and limits can change. We announce changes in the API changelog and give lead time where we can.
Don’t use the API or its data to build or seed a competing community, events, or newsletter platform.

Beta Scope

During the beta period, API use is limited to personal productivity tools and internal tools that support approved AI Tinkerers chapter operations.

That means you may build tools for your own workflow, your chapter’s events, reporting, dashboards, follow-ups, speaker pipelines, and operational automation. Managing your own chapter’s sponsor pipeline, outreach, and post-event sponsor recaps is squarely in scope. Building tools that sponsors themselves use, or that touch sponsor data across chapters, needs a conversation first.

Our Code of Conduct applies to API usage too: the same community standards apply when building tools, handling data, and interacting with members, organizers, sponsors, and chapters.

Prohibited Uses

You may not use the API to:

Send spam or unsolicited outreach, on or off the platform.
Scrape, bulk-export, or systematically harvest member, attendee, RSVP, event, sponsor, organizer, or chapter data, or maintain persistent external stores of it beyond what your tool immediately needs.
Resell, sublicense, share, or broker API access or API data.
Solicit, collect, or use another member’s API key. Agents act only on their own owner’s key and permissions.
Conduct surveillance of members or allow anyone else to do so through your access.
Circumvent permissions, rate limits, security measures, or plan and role restrictions enforced by the website. Rate-limit circumvention and abusive usage are violations of these terms, not just throttled requests.
Monitor availability or performance of the platform for benchmarking purposes.
Impersonate AI Tinkerers, present an unofficial tool as official, or imply endorsement without written approval.
Use community data for unrelated products, profiling, enrichment, advertising, or marketing.
Build, seed, or improve a competing community, events, or newsletter product with AI Tinkerers data or API access.

Agent behavior standard: an agent acting on a member’s behalf must act transparently and only in ways that member and the members it interacts with would reasonably expect.

Data and Privacy

API users are responsible for protecting any data they access through the API.

Member, attendee, RSVP, event, sponsor, organizer, and chapter data may only be used for approved AI Tinkerers-related operations and personal productivity related to your AI Tinkerers role.
Request the narrowest scopes your tool needs, and keep the least data for the shortest time.
Do not expose personal data publicly, transfer it to unrelated services, or use it for unrelated marketing, profiling, enrichment, or advertising.
If a member asks you to delete personal data your tool holds about them, honor it promptly.
When a key is revoked or your access ends, delete member data you are holding within 14 days.
If you believe API data, credentials, or related systems were exposed, email [email protected] within 24 hours of discovery.

AI and Model Training

You may not use data obtained through the API, including derived, aggregated, or anonymized forms, to train, fine-tune, or improve generalized AI or machine learning models.

Personalized use is fine and encouraged: your own agent may remember, index, and learn from data it accesses on your behalf, for your benefit, within your permissions.

Access, Changes, and Availability

API access is experimental and provided as-is during the beta. AI Tinkerers may change endpoints, response fields, authentication rules, scopes, rate limits, pricing, eligibility, or availability at any time. We announce changes in the API changelog and aim to give lead time for breaking changes where practicable.

API access may be suspended or revoked at any time, especially for security, privacy, abuse, brand, platform integrity, or operational reasons. Eligibility is tied to community participation and your member account standing.

Keep API keys private. Do not share keys, commit them to source control, or embed them insecurely in distributed apps.

Commercial Use

Commercial use is prohibited without an express written agreement with AI Tinkerers.

This includes incorporating the API or AI Tinkerers data into a product or service, reselling API access, charging for API-powered tools, selling services based on API data, monetizing sponsor or member data, or using the API as part of a third-party business. We reserve the right to introduce pricing, commercial tiers, or a reviewed distribution program in the future.

Ownership, Feedback, and Brand

AI Tinkerers retains ownership and control of its platform, data, network, API, trademarks, and brand. Builders own their own code and applications, but API access does not grant ownership of AI Tinkerers data or permission to create an official AI Tinkerers product without approval.

If you send us feedback or suggestions about the API or platform, you assign us the right to use them without restriction or compensation. AI Tinkerers may independently build features that are similar to or competitive with tools built on the API.

Enforcement

We prefer conversations to enforcement, and self-reported mistakes are treated more leniently than discovered ones. When enforcement is needed it escalates: a warning, key revocation, account suspension, notification of affected members, and legal action for serious violations. We may suspend access without notice while investigating suspected violations, and we may ask you to demonstrate that your tool complies with these terms.

Warranty, Liability, and Indemnity

The API is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind during the beta. To the maximum extent permitted by law, AI Tinkerers’ total liability arising out of or related to API use is limited to one hundred US dollars (USD $100). You agree to indemnify and hold harmless AI Tinkerers from claims arising out of your use of the API, your tools, your handling of data, or your breach of these terms.
